This is a challenge of monumental proportions: how to summarize the many pleasures of a state with eight–count them, eight!–national parks, three compelling cities (Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco), and two equally fascinating but different cultures represented in the northern and southern parts of an enormous state?
